Lord's Day Post

God begins the 58th chapter of Isaiah with a command to the prophet to tell the people what they have done wrong....and He then begins to describe the people. They "delight" to know His ways....and that as a nation are seeking His righteousness....but are wondering where God's justice is because they as a nation are in fact...."afflicted?"
God then sets the record straight. He tells them that they just think they are doing all these good things...but in reality they are using this piety to mask that they are really seeking their own pleasure....not God's!
He tells them what He wants....and among those things they are to do...."Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor that are cast out?" He is telling them that do not care for others....but only for themselves! Is that not the mantra in America today....America First?
So He tells them that if they want to have their prayers answered....and to be guided by the LORD....that they have to have compassion on others....but He concludes what has become designated as a chapter with this....that is related....as they also took the Sabbath and turned it into a day for seeking their own pleasure.
Today we have taken....the Lord's Day....and also turned it into a day where we seek pleasure for us. Of course we have come up with explanations on why we can do this. The first step in returning to the Lord's Day....is a broken step....in that we get bogged down in specifics....what we can and cannot do....whereas God is telling us to focus on looking at the day....our Sunday....as a delight to be honoring God....and to delight in the Lord!
