This short post was written a few hours after the above was posted. Since posting the above I listened to a 'newly found' address given by Iain Murray....on Martyn Lloyd-Jones....given about a month after....The Doctor....went to be with his Lord and Savior. I recommend to you....heartily....that you Google....Martyn Lloyd-Jones-The Latter Years. Indeed....is that not what I mentioned in the above post....that I want in these posts to introduce visitors to great preachers from the past?
I generally will listen to any tape of Iain Murray....for he is one of my favorite authors....and this tape was no disappointment. I'll give you but one anecdote here....(Murray is a man of anecdotes)....Martyn Lloyd Jones had turned eighty years old....and health-wise it had been a challenge for a while. He would live about another year. In a conversation with Iain Murray he mentioned that another great preacher....Thomas Chalmers....had said that when a Christian completes his...."three score years and ten"....that it should begin a time of preparation for heaven....a sabbath so to speak....a time to disengage somewhat....to withdraw from the 'busyness' of the world. Lloyd-Jones told Murray that he agreed with that....and that a Christian should desire a time of preparation before death....rather than as some desire....a sudden death.
There is in this train of thought a link to the Second Coming of Christ. I know that it must be hard for a younger person....with as we often state it....'has their whole life in front of them'....it is hard for them to easily come to grips with a world about to be judged....but for believers like myself....and so many of my friends....it is time to let go of that...."busyness"....which dominated our lives for so many decades....and to as Chalmers wrote....and Lloyd-Jones agreed....begin to prepare for meeting Jesus....face to face....in that day of which only He knows. The awareness of the nearness of the return of Jesus should give all believers that...."time of preparation."
