Lord's Day Post

Preface: You will most likely return home from church tomorrow....having not been affected one bit by the sermon that you heard. There will be nothing to talk about later. Probably nothing even remembered. The unction for saving souls is long gone....the unction for saving America having replaced that. Our evangelists today are on Fox cable or talk radio. Our scripture studies done through the pundit's podcast....our sacraments administered usually on the first Tuesday of November. I posted this paragraph about a month ago:

"Are you tired of hearing about all this born again stuff. You've gone to church all your life....put a sizable amount of money in the collection plate over the years....vote Republican....what more could God possibly want? If this is you then you need to find some resolution to this problem....and quickly....for you have been driving a long time with the check engine light on and unnoticed. John Piper has a sermon for you on this. Just Google....John Piper YouTube, Why Do We Need To Be Born Again. Come on....I know you are sick of hearing about this....so settle it once and for all!' Surely you have forty-one minutes and fifteen seconds somewhere in your life don't you? I'll give you one very good reason....apart from your own soul....that you should consider this. You love your children more than yourself. Maybe they are adults now....maybe it is your parents....and they are wonderful people....but have they ever been truly converted to trusting in Christ alone....do they even know what that means? Are you willing to take this chance? "

We Are Now Crusaders....No Longer Pilgrims

                  If we think back....there are a number of war movies that we have seen in our lifetime.....John Wayne's The Alamo for one.....where the good guys wait and expect or at least hope for reinforcements....but they never come. That is where we are in the church today....looking around at what is happening in the world....and expecting that God would miraculously save us....at least here in America. Why do we think this? Because God is good and loving.....and the Bible tells of so many times when He had done just that. The problem....where we are severely mistaken....is that we think that we also are good and loving. Well....our fight against those fighting the coronavirus proved that we are not as loving as we thought....or as discerning as we might have expected....and our complete lack of compassion for aliens crossing our borders....and refusal to even explore how we might help them in spite of the legitimate concerns....this as we count the money in our financial portfolios....also proves that we.....in direct opposition to what God's Word commands of us....do not have compassion for the alien in our midst.
                 Freedom and liberty are our gods now....including the freedom to keep our churches open....irregardless of the fact that the gospel is rarely preached in those churches. Our American way of life has been an abomination to God for a long time now....whether it was the liberal or MAGA version....yet we think that God will restore us so we can become even more rebellious and abominable on the one side....or more selfish and arrogant on our side....as if the false prophet was correct in proclaiming us to be....one glorious nation under God. There is nothing new in any of this....for Israel acted in the very same way. Man doesn't change....only flags change....and technology changes....and weapons change....except the weapons that we truly do have....in the most important battle that we are in.
                 It does not appear....yet anyway....that all the talk about possible world war....even nuclear war....has affected us much. I can tell you this....if the situation would settle out....and all the talk about war disappear....we would immediately.....if are aren't still there....be right back to our idols of sport and entertainment and riches. There is no sign of repentance that I have seen or read about....and this that we have become is what we think that God will rush to rescue!
                 We defend the Constitution today. We do not defend the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no cost to discipleship. We are crusaders....not reformers....and not pilgrims. Yes there is major separation in America today but it has nothing to do with Christians being separated from the world. I post so often on Saturday's how the next day....the Lord's Day....God's Holy Spirit might begin to awaken the pulpits in much of America....and that is my prayer right now as I type....but even that would only increase the remnant of true believers....leading to a major winnowing....where the redeemed of the Lord will be isolated and rejected....but in that isolation....we will at least recognize each other.
