What we have lost in the modern church....this is just one way of putting it....and just one thing that we have lost....is the concept of....escape. We may have moved....maybe we changed....but escape is a little bit melodramatic don't you think? And since we cannot see ourselves as having....escaped....we consequently do not try to help our loved ones escape! There is no prison in our vocabulary.....so no escape in our repertoire is necessary.
We may as well be the Church of Las Vegas....or the Casino Church....for with no definition to what it means to be born again....it is all a crapshoot. We have a loved one....a parent or a child or a spouse....roll the dice....and maybe hope and pray.R.C. Sproul preached his final sermon on November 26, 2017. It was titled....A Great Salvation....in which he used that concept of escape. Eighteen days later he experienced first hand that great salvation that he so wonderfully and faithfully preached for over a half century. His voice is raspy....but his message was clear and urgent....this is a great salvation....and if it is such a great salvation....then we should treat it as such. Anything less makes no sense.
I am no different than you in that I have friends and acquaintances....and when I look at them or think about them....it is always on the grid of....is this my friend or my loved one....born again....are they saved....have they escaped the prison of eternal damnation?
With R. C. Sproul and many brothers and sisters in Christ that I know....it is a surety....as far as any human mind can determine....but with others.....it is far from a surety that they have a genuine saving faith....for this salvation to them doesn't in any way appear a great salvation. I can roll the dice....hey....maybe they are saved....but I will not do that.
Please Google.....R. C. Sproul's Final Sermon! What have you got to lose? And there is great edification there to be gained for all of us! I listened to it again tonight.....probably the twentieth time or so that I went to it for encouragement and a blessing.
