I would like to direct this post to viewers outside the United States....which is a little less than half the viewers. Beyond the headlines and the tabloids....what is the United States really like today? Well....it's not always in these words....but generally in the conversations that I have....our comments are usually something like this...."How did it get this bad?" And those words are usually spoken along with eyes that often stare blankly wherever.
How did Joe Biden ever get to be president....and how on God's green earth...is he still here....and how did Barack Obama ever get to be president? Or it's...."How did Trump ever get to be president? And how is it possible that he is still here?" These are the somewhat normal folks asking these questions....for the much bigger group is wearing MAGA hats....and you can't really get into harmony with them because they have one chord to play...and have no idea what the extra strings are for.
It is bad over here folks. Let me give you one example that you might be able to understand....two men....but one example.....Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz. You probably know who they are. Now this was part of the America of the past....sound intellects....ethical....integrity....and gravitas. We had some difficult times but men like this....and some women....were always there to talk it out in the Areopagus.
Well....a funny thing happened on the way to forum....both of these men in desperation said....'let Trump be Trump'....so Trump moved into their heads....and in contradistinction to the words of Professor Kingsfield in The Paper Chase....they came into the Congress...."thinking like a lawyer"....but will leave....when Trump shoves them out the door...."with a skull full of mush!" And far from the Socratic Method of learning by questioning and answering....we take no questions....and just deny all the evidence against us.
Earlier on in our nation we always had our faith and our pulpits and the Bible. Well the Bible went first...replaced by the Sunday bulletin....the pulpits were replaced by transparent plexiglass lecterns....there is no gravitas here anymore....Ichabod....the glory of God is gone.....and our faith which was once in Christ is gone....replaced by the false prophecies of MAGA. We have little to no interest in Jeremiah who would convict us by having us look into a mirror....but plenty of interest in false teachers who flatter us....while sending us through the looking glass for answers much more savory to our tastes.
